Connect Bluesky with an app password

Bluesky connects with an app password rather than a sign-in screen. Here is how to create one and connect it.

Updated

Bluesky does not offer the redirect sign-in that other networks use. Instead, it lets you create app passwords: separate passwords for apps like Fluxi, which you can revoke one at a time without changing your real password.

Create an app password

  1. Sign in to Bluesky.
  2. Go to Settings → Privacy and security → App passwords.
  3. Add a new app password. Name it something you will recognise, such as "Fluxi".
  4. Copy the password Bluesky shows you. You will not be able to see it again.

Connect it to Fluxi

  1. Open the portfolio in Settings → Social Portfolios.
  2. Choose Bluesky.
  3. Enter your Bluesky handle, for example yourname.bsky.social, and the app password you just created.
  4. Choose Connect.

Fluxi uses the app password once to start a session with Bluesky, and stores only that session, encrypted.

Do not enter your main Bluesky password. Fluxi only needs an app password, and using one means you can cut off access without touching your real login.

Disconnect

You can disconnect Bluesky from the portfolio in Fluxi, or revoke the app password in Bluesky's settings. Revoking it disconnects Fluxi immediately.
