Hashtag generator

Choose a topic and get a balanced set: a few broad tags for reach, a few mid-size ones where you can actually compete, and niche tags for the people most likely to care. Edit it, copy it, use it.

Broad

Category signalling. Huge, competitive, useful for classification.

Mid-size

Where you can realistically compete. The workhorses of a set.

Niche

Small and specific. Fewer people, far more likely to care.

Separate with spaces or commas. A branded tag belongs in almost every set.

Why the mix matters more than the count

The most common hashtag mistake is using only enormous tags. A tag with fifty million posts gives you effectively no chance of visibility and tells the platform almost nothing specific about your content. A tag used four hundred times tells it a great deal. A working set blends the two: broad tags for classification, mid-size tags where you could plausibly surface, and niche tags that describe exactly what the post is.

How many to use, per network

The right number differs more between networks than most guidance admits.

  • Instagram — eight to fifteen well-chosen tags; the thirty-in-a-comment era has passed
  • TikTok — three to five, closely matched to the video
  • LinkedIn — three is plenty; more reads as someone misjudging the room
  • X — one at most, and only when it is a genuine conversation
  • YouTube — a few in the description; the title and thumbnail do the real work

Always include a branded tag

One tag that belongs only to the client is worth more than three more category tags. It gives you somewhere to point people, a way to collect user content, and something you can actually own rather than compete in. Add it in the box above and it joins every set you build.

Research rarely, reuse often

Hashtag research is worth doing properly and worth doing infrequently. Build a set per content pillar, use it for a few months, revisit quarterly. The marginal value of fresh tags on any single post is tiny, and the cumulative cost of researching every time is enormous — which is the whole argument for saving sets rather than rebuilding them.

Consistency is what makes them measurable

A branded tag spelled two different ways is a branded tag nobody can follow, and inconsistent tagging is the reason most hashtag strategies look worthless when someone finally reviews them. Once more than one person posts for an account, the sets need to live somewhere shared rather than in someone’s memory — that is exactly what Fluxi’s saved hashtag groups are for.
